Full-Time Midlevel Practice Generalist – Emergency Medicine – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Description

SALARY:  $79,447.00 to $101,295.00, no experience required

SUMMARY:  Under general supervision, provides independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population. Provides consultation and advice to others as a highly-specialized practitioner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses diagnosis, and develops treatment plans. Treats acute and chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care in the emergency department.  Writes appropriate orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs.  Performs emergency life saving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar emergencies.  Work as a team member with medical/nursing staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care.  Notifies attending physician in the emergency department or supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation. Will formally consult with ED physician in complex or high acuity cases.  May supervise and/or coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the emergency department.  Engages in professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops. Maintains certification in compliance with current state law; participate in professional affiliations. May perform clinical research related to specific operations or participate in clinical studies.Writes complete emergency department notes on patients’ charts including initial data gathering, results of diagnostic testing, medical decision making, procedures performed and disposition; maintains other records as required. Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols. Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes. Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner. Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may “not seem right”. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:   Bachelor’s degree and graduation from a PA program or NP program. Certified Nurse Practitioner License from NM Board of Nursing and Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant and Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Position will be located primarily at the Sandoval Regional Medical Center with a secondary clinical site at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
