Denver Water’s Human Resource Division is currently seeking a qualified candidate as an Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant, working under general supervision and in compliance with signed medical protocols, is responsible for triage and care of work related injured/ill employees, as well as triage of acute illness or injuries for employees of a non-work related nature.  A Nurse Practitioner will adhere to the scope of practice as established by the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.  A Physician’s Assistant will adhere to the Medical Guidelines as established by the State of Colorado.  Work under the license of the Medical Director for Denver Water Employee Health Clinic.  The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a strong desire and a passion to assist Denver Water to become the “best water utility in the nation”.

 

The successful candidate will be able to perform the following duties:

 

  • Demonstrates expert skill in diagnoses and treatment to manage acute and chronic illness and/or injury.
  • Promote health and wellness through preventative education.
  • Performs employee physical examinations, biometric screenings, pre-placement screenings and annual health exam
  • Participates in flu vaccine program, safety and health programs and mask fit programs.
  • May be required to suture wounds as needed.
  • Performs CDL/Medical exam physicals and monitors the CDL/Medical exam program. Certificated to perform CDL/ DOT exams preferred.
  • Performs drug and alcohol screening.
  • Will be required to be on call after hours at least one week out of the month.
  • Maintains record keeping system that ensures confidentiality, accuracy and medical-legal compliance.
  • Performs Worker’s Compensation reporting, record keeping, and case management.  Remains technically current in the field of occupational health nursing, and secures necessary or required certifications.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Qualifications for appointment:

 

Thorough knowledge in all aspects of occupational health practices; Knowledge of employee assistance programs, health/safety monitoring.  Worker’s Compensation law and other related activities.

Strong computer skills with knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

 

 

 

Education Requirements:

Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program, or an accredited Physician Assistant program, typically accomplished through a Bachelor’s degree prior to 2000 and a Master’s degree if after 2000.

 

Experience Requirements:

Three years’ experience of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant in an ambulatory care, occupational health, family practice or emergency department setting preferred.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Requires a certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) in a specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice.
  • Must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado or the multi-compact nurse license.
  • Must hold a current license as a Physician’s Assistant if applying as PA.
  • Certification in occupational health nursing preferred.
  • Certified Medical Examiners in the National Registry for the FMCSA preferred
  • Position requires HIPAA training and CPR certification.
  • Prescriptive authority preferred.
