Howard University Health Sciences Faculty Practice Plan seeks a Nurse Practitioner for the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced nursing care and treatment to patients in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics. Perform physical examinations, orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. Record physical findings and formulates treatment plans and prognosis, based on patient’s condition. Coordinates the care of patients and liaises between visiting nurses, clinical staff and consult and referring services.  Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine health needs of patients and families.  Demonstrates and role models an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care. Collaborates for program development maintaining, following and participating in the development of standards of care, clinical pathways and patient care protocols.

 

Minimum Education Requirement: Must be a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner training program, master’s degree preferred.

 

Minimum Licensure/Certification Requirement: Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the District of Columbia; and Maryland (preferred), as well as meet qualifications for appointment to the Active Medical Staff with clinical privileges as a Nurse Practitioner.
