Job Description

Plancher Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant to complement our Nurse Practitioners in our Manhattan office.

• Operating in concert with and under the direction of a Licensed Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon subspecialty trained in Sports Medicine and Hand Surgery
• Specialized knowledge and skills in the provision of direct patient care
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints/tendons/trigger points/bursa, as well as brace/cast/splint
• Assist in surgery to include but not limited to first assist, deep and superficial tissue closures, application of appliances and any other action delegated by the surgeon. Conduct hospital rounds, and write orders. Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, dictate discharge summaries, histories and physicals.
• Perform compartment pressure measurements, digital blocks, and regional anesthesia. Performing minor outpatient surgical procedures such as tendon repair, wound closure and management, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning of fractures, k-wire and hardware removal with Orthopaedic Surgeons.
• Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks
• Meets all requirements in or to obtain Physician Assistant Credentialing and required privileges of service. Maintains current and valid New York and Connecticut licensures.
• Engages in annual continuing medical education in orthopaedics specialty to meet organizational and state licensing requirements
• Works in coordination with the health care providers and case managers to develop treatment plans for patients
• Uses computerized digital office systems in order to obtain patient information, order labs and tests, and check messages.
• Order, prescribe, dispense and administer medication, orthosis, orthotics, braces, and other Orthopaedic devices as may be allowed by state legislation.
