Job Description

Job Summary:  Provides professional patient care in an outpatient Interventional Radiology Center under the direction of the Clinical Director

Educational Requirements: Graduate of an accredited PA Educational Program by the ACR-PA.  Current Texas PA license/registration.Current licensure by the National Commission on the Certification of PAs (NCCPA) including all associated requirements for medical education, testing, and logging of CME. Holds Texas Controlled Substance license. Holds (or is eligible to hold) DEA licensure with no restrictions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of two years experience in physician office or hospital setting
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care
  • Procedural experience (preferably assisting Interventional Radiologists)
  • Skilled in surgical techniques
  • Experienced in diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions
  • Basic working knowledge of managed care and Medicare population
  • Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional appearance

Responsibilities:

  • Consultation: obtains thorough patient history, performs focused physical examination, formulates treatment plan and documents findings in the patient’s EMR
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of venous ultrasound and basic surgical skills
  • Obtains needed equipment
  • Reviews pre-procedure instructions, explains procedure, reviews procedural risks and benefits with the patient.
  • Obtains vascular access, performs conservative therapy evaluations, microsurgical phlebectomy, Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy  and visual sclerotherapy,
  • Maintains prompt, timely communication with referring clinicians and patients (i.e. sends follow up letters and thank you letters, return patients calls).
  • Performs patient education  and counseling duties; distributes educational materials; directs patients to specific Internet sites for information on vein disease
  • Exhibits mastery of patient treatment plan, encounter and clinical procedures
  • Remains resourceful in removing barriers to treatment for patients who have a medical need and would benefit from a higher quality of life.
  • Demonstrates actions of a team player – assist peers with documentation and case load, provide vacation coverage for peers, and offer overall support when appropriate.

  3. Foster and maintain a network of referring providers that entrust you with new and existing patients to evaluate and treat.
  4. Leads the clinic team by example, including, but not limited to: working after hours when clinic needs necessitate; traveling upon request or need; displaying a positive attitude; maintaining and encouraging employee development, teaching and guidance.   Demonstrates overall behavior that supports the needs, growth and atmosphere of Hamilton Vein Center.
  5. Attend dinners, networking events and education for referring providers and patients associated with your clinic.  Support these activities in other centers when appropriate, for example attend open house or networking events for satellite clinics in which you are the treating clinic.
  6. Draw from your own strengths to creatively drive ahead the clinic’s quality, growth and health.
  7. Develop and leverage the other clinical staff at your clinic to aide your ability to focus on patients and prioritize work.
  8. Proactively monitor patient schedules for proper staffing and communicate needs or adjustments when appropriate.
  • Act as a backup in scheduling, checking and placing patients in exam room. As well as, room set up, re-stocking, clean up. May also be a backup in verifying, billing and obtaining authorization.
  • May need to prepare trays, dress wounds, measure and apply stocking post procedure.
  • Perform/assist in minor procedures if needed (such as thyroid biopsy, PICC, angiogram…)
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
  • Participate in raising awareness by conducting educational seminars for patients, employers, referring physicians, staff and the community
  • Maintain CPR and ACLS certifications
  • Attend all regular meetings
  • Participate in at least one council, committee or task force developed by the practice
  • Support the practice in research studies
  • Participate in quarterly review meetings
  • Perform in other tasks and projects as assigned

Typical Physical Demands:

Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Involves standing and walking.  Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds or moving patients.  Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
