Full-Time Physician Assistant-Certified
Job Description
Position purpose summary: Orthopedic sub-specialty – Hand
Provide healthcare services to patients in both the clinic and surgery, under direction and responsibility of physician(s)
Essential functions:
- Assist physician in the clinic (e.g., room and prep patients; order x-rays; compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination)
- Assist surgeon in operating room (e.g., pre-surgery planning, position patient in O.R., check for proper instruments, assist in surgical procedure, close wound, remove patient)
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as splinting, casting, suturing and wound care
- Apply, remove, modify and adjust casts and soft goods; change dressings; remove sutures
- Implement patient management plans, record progress, and assist in provision of care
- Consultations with (phone or in-person) patients for cast application/adjustment, dressing changes or brace application; etc.
- Rounding and call (including evening and weekends), as required by supervising Physician
- Prescribe medications
Additional functions:
Any and all other duties as assigned
Education, experience, & other requirements:
- NCCPA certification
- Minnesota Board of Medical Practice registration/license
- DEA registration
Additional essential requirements:
Ability to:
- Work in the clinic/hospital/surgery center during business hours. Work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours, as required.
- Travel independently throughout the workplace (which may include movement from floor to floor); stand for long periods of time
- Frequently work at a fast pace, with unscheduled interruptions and deadlines
- Converse in a calm, friendly manner
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Proficiently operate modern clinic and office (e.g., PC) equipment; and communicate on and operate the phone system
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects (e.g., transport patient from/to gurney/wheelchair; lift and hold legs, arms, etc. during surgery)
- Travel to other work-related locations

Environmental conditions:
- Normal clinic/hospital setting
- May be exposed to hazardous agents and infectious disease; cast dust and saw noise
