NP Job description

• Support surgeon during office hours
• Hold independent clinic while surgeon does not have office hours
• Perform a comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exam
• Interpret subjective and objective patient data to formulate a working diagnosis and differential diagnose
• Formulate treatment plans for orthopedic problems
• Implement therapeutic intervention for orthopedic conditions
• Exercise judgment on conditions requiring referral or evaluation by the supervising surgeon or other healthcare professional (physical therapy, neurology, pain management, etc)
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing (x-ray, MRI, CT scan, nuclear medicine, blood work, EMG, etc.)
• Perform in-office wound management (suture small lacerations, suture/staple removal)
• Perform joint aspirations
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injections (shoulder, knee, elbow, trigger point)
• Perform pre-surgical educational sessions answering all patients questions and obtaining informed consent
• Order, fit, and adjust durable medical equipment (off the shelf orthotics, orthoses, braces, crutches, etc.)
• Apply cast and splints for fracture management
• Prescribe appropriate medication for pain and inflammation relief
• First-Assist in surgical procedures as needed
• Perform post-operative appointments and review recovery and rehabilitation protocols with patients
• Field patient phone calls and answer any questions regarding treatment/recovery
• Document patient visits on electronic medical record keeping software
