Description

 

The Department of Orthopaedics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will serve as the Joint Replacement Center Program Coordinator, under the direction of the Physician Director of the program. This is largely an administrative position, with some clinical responsibilities.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Serve as liaison between the surgeons, office staff, physical therapists, home health services and hospital administration in order to optimize the care of the joint replacement patients.
  • Assist and collaborate with hospital IT personnel and the American Joint Replacement Registry in the coordination of downloads of patient outcome scores.
  • Meet with all joint replacement patients upon discharge to explain the post-op routine and to establish a relationship as the primary contact for patients until their next appointment.
  • Monitor and respond to medical calls from patients to the Joint Replacement Center hotline. Most calls are related to renewals of medication and physical therapy prescriptions, slow recovery, treatment of pain, anxiety and other medical issues being experienced.
  • Assist with educational seminars and the development of on-line educational tools.
  • Collaborate with hospital marketing personnel on the promotion of the Joint Replacement Center.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Physician Director of the Joint Replacement Center.

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Masters Degree in nursing. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills. Active DEA license.

 

Physician Assistant: Certification and licensure in NYS as a Physician Assistant. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills. Active DEA license.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Experience in community education. Orthopaedic experience.
