Job Description
Position Summary: The Physician Assistant or Advance Practice Nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner) is licensed by the Department of Health and certified by the ANA and may engage in the expanded practice of psychiatric health, which includes, but is not limited to the performance of mental health services and the issuance of prescriptions within identified areas of practice covered by Protocols. The APRN or PA will be credentialed by the Medical Staff Office as well. Under the direction of the Medical Director, Administrative Director and designated supervising psychiatrist is responsible to provide psychiatric evaluations, consultations and liaison services to patients. This may encompass group, individual and/or family therapy to a broad range of clients seeking inpatient and/or outpatient psychiatric services.
Education: A Physician Assistant or R.N./Master’s degree in Nursing required. ANA certification as a Clinical Specialist in Adult and/or adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing and/or ANA certification as Nurse Practitioner, certified in family and/or psychiatry in Mental Health, 30 CEUs, education in pharmacology of psychotropic drugs and certain legal drugs.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years post Master’s psychiatric experience preferred and 2 years of prescription privileges preferred.
Knowledge: Psychopharmacology and diagnostic skills in adult, adolescent and/or geriatric psychiatry.
Skills & Abilities: Skills in organization and priority setting, Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines. Proficiency in English grammar, spelling and punctuation, Ability to read and interpret data, reports, reading material, Ability to perform math calculations, Ability to utilize sound interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and taking into consideration cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers, Access to reliable transportation in order to service off site locations
