Job Description

NURSE PRACTITIONERS WANTED IN AMERICA’S FINEST CITY…SAN DIEGO, CA. Psychiatric Centers at San Diego (PCSD), the largest behavioral health group practice in the Western United States, is seeking Adult, Geriatric and Child / Adolescent Nurse Practitioners, who are interested in exploring private practice opportunities. PCSD has practiced in San Diego County since 1972, and has enjoyed a reputation for its state of the art treatment and quality of care. The members of PCSD are active with inpatient and outpatient care, medical and clinical administration, research, teaching, lecturing and clinical writing.

 

Compensation: DOE, with comprehensive benefit package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, long/short term disability and 401(K).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates and manages psychiatric disorders. Conduct in-depth interviews with patients, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical examinations. Coordinates appropriate follow-up care, referrals, and case management. Performs crisis intervention and medication management. Develop and implement long and short range treatment plans. Consults and coordinates care with other medical and psychologist staff, and outside agencies. Serves as a resource in evaluation and management of psychiatric disorders for primary care staff. Possible participation in committees, research and/or quality assurance. All other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of Psychiatric principles, practices, and process gained through extended clinical study and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing psychiatric medications.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric models of care with emphasis on interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Skill in interviewing and counseling. Knowledge of community agencies most frequently used in mental health care.
  • Skill in management of health-illness needs in primary health care. Knowledge of and skill in conducting a health history and performing a physical examination.
  • Proven ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal patient assessment findings. Skill in interpretation of laboratory data. Knowledge and skill in assessment and treatment of common acute illnesses and injuries.
  • Ability to serve a large volume of patients rapidly and effectively on a walk-in or appointment basis, within set time limits.

Required Certifications/Education

  • Board Certification (ANCC) as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • State of California Nurse Practitioner License and Current Certificate.
  • State of California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number and DEA number.
  • State of California Registered Nurse.
  • DEA License.
  • Current CPR Certification, preferred.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands of position consist of heavy patient interaction; require sitting for long periods, stooping, bending, stretching, occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity for frequent keying. View computer for long periods. Work environment can be stressful office environment.
