Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates is seeking an experienced Second Shift In-House Neurosurgical Trauma Call APP (Advanced Practice Provider). We are a private practice where you will work closely with our highly sub-specialized group of Neurosurgeons and Residents. General Job Summary: Advanced practice providers on our team play an integral role in the global management of neurosurgical patients, including all aspects of pre-, intra-, and post-operative care. Neurosurgery APPs perform patient histories, formulate treatment plans, and manage post-operative care during second shift in the hospital under the supervision of the attending neurosurgeon. This position will work in tandem with another APP covering trauma call in-house. 
Five to Seven years of Neurosurgical experience is highly favored but not required with extensive prior experience in emergency medicine, trauma, and surgery as an APP.
The hours for this shift are negotiable but must include coverage from 5pm – 9pm Mon-Fri with job sharing possible for an on/off schedule upon mutual agreement.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
  • Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data
  • Formulates differential diagnosis and establishes a working diagnosis
  • Formulates treatment plans for emergent, acute, and chronic neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice in consultation with the attending neurosurgeon
  • Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate
  • Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising neurosurgeon or other physicians/healthcare professionals
  • Works in conjunction with in-house and/or at-home on-call junior and senior neurosurgical residents
Hospital Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs initial trauma, ED, ICU, and floor consults
  • Formulates treatment plans and consults with attending neurosurgeon and/or neurosurgical resident
  • Manages calls from Atrium Physician Referral Line, outlying EDs, hospitals, and consulting physicians
  • Arranges /manages transfer of patients requiring emergent and acute neurosurgical care
  • Manages calls from established Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine outpatients.
  • Orders appropriate radiographic studies
  • Evaluates post-operative patients
  • Reviews radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities
  • Evaluates, screens, and counsels patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources
  • Designs, conducts, and/or participates in research studies
  • Manages databases
  • Performs quality assurance

A Valid NC PA or NP License is Required
