Nurse Practitioner (Wesley Health & Wellness Center)

Essential Duties:

  • Provides medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and providing medical services and treatment to clinic patients within the scope of the Texas Nursing Practice Act relating to Nurse Practitioners.
  • Prescribes medications in collaboration with the medical director responsible for the practice.
  • Plans appropriate care utilizing community resources and acts as a liaison by relaying information necessary for continuity of care to other health professionals and agencies.
  • Educates individuals and/or families or groups about health or defined health problems.
  • Ensures timely and appropriate records, reports, claims and correspondences necessary and appropriate in connection with all examinations, procedures and other professional services rendered in the clinic are kept and maintained. 
  • Complies with Methodist Healthcare Ministries’ policies regarding record keeping as related to charges and billing policies for patient services.
  • Coordinates with the clinic team to assist in maintaining a smooth running clinic and efficient patient flow
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Assumes responsibilities for ongoing continuing education based on individual identified needs.
  • Provides medical services at the Clinics pursuant to agreed upon schedules.
  • Coordinates with Director of Clinic and Behavioral Health Services regarding leave time so as to maintain appropriate coverage for services in the Clinic at all times.
  • Participates in quality improvement and management, educational programs, or other patient care management programs established by or in conjunction with Clinic services.
  • Provides feedback to Clinic Operations Manager regarding the performance of duties of the health care team.
  • Initiates contact with Behavioral Health Services for referrals to agencies and community resources.
  • Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Graduate of an accredited nursing school; graduate of Advance Practice Nursing program; three years experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Family Practice Nurse Practitioner preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, and analyze legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from staff, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Fluent in English; Spanish bilingual preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates and Licenses:

Licensed as an RN/APN in the State of Texas. Prescriptive authority according to the Texas Nursing Practice Act. BLS certification.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrate working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, Word, Excel and electronic health records applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a medical office environment having direct contact with patients and clients. Position necessitates bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, sitting and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds.
