University of South Alabama, in partnership with the national search firm, Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Physician Assistant Faculty Member. University of South Alabama seeks a collaborative and passionate educator to serve in this 12-month, non-tenure track, full-time faculty position. The new faculty member’s responsibility is to the didactic class, with certain duties to the clinical class required as well.
Responsibilities:
- Complete assigned teaching responsibilities for the PA didactic curriculum.
- Assist coordination of the academic and professional progress of first year physician assistant students.
- Aid in the creation, implementation, evaluation and advancement of the didactic curriculum.
- Advise students in the didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum.
- Conduct professional development and scholarly activities consistent with the goals of the department, college, and university.
- Participate in the program’s admissions process.
- Assist with the self-study process for accreditation.
- Participate in department, college, and university meetings.
- Participate in projects or service conducted by the department, college, and university.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Both PA and Physician candidates will be considered.
- PA candidates must be a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with current NCCPA certification and current licensure in the State of Alabama (or license eligible).
- Physician candidates must have current licensure in the State of Alabama (or license eligible) as an allopathic or osteopathic physician.
- A master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical and teaching experience is preferred.

The Covey College of Allied Health Professions has made a positive impact on students and the community since 1975. The Covey College of Allied Health Professions is dedicated to providing the highest quality education in the basic medical sciences and health professions education. We offer outstanding scientific and clinical health degree programs at the certificate, undergraduate, and graduate level. About the Department of Physician Assistant Studies:
Established in 1996, the Physician Assistant Program at the University of South Alabama is a Master’s Degree physician assistant program and is designed for the student who holds a baccalaureate degree in any field.
The USA physician assistant program provides the student with comprehensive medical knowledge, skills, and attitudes enabling them to engage in clinical practice, and is designed to prepare the student for a variety of clinical practice settings. The goals and objectives of the PA program are guided by the criteria set forth in the Essentials and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the Physician Assistant, as established by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
Students in the physician assistant program are prepared for PA practice using a variety of learning strategies, including, formal lectures, practical laboratory classes, clinical education, and clinical research.
PA students will utilize the Simulation Program at the University of South Alabama which consists of both manikin and standardized patient modalities. Students participate in simulated clinical learning experiences at one of six locations in the Mobile and Baldwin County areas. The Simulation Program’s extensive inventory has an array of partial-task trainers and full-bodied simulators ranging from low- to high-fidelity patient simulators creating an optimal clinical learning environment. These environments are designed to improve technical skills, clinical judgment, decision-making, communication, and teamwork. The faculty and staff are committed to excellence in healthcare education, practice, and research through the use of health- related simulation.
Students in the program complete a variety of clinical rotations in the Mobile and surrounding communities. Graduates of the physician assistant program develop advanced clinical problem-solving skills, in addition to acquiring technical proficiency in areas related to professional practice.
