Position Role:

The APN is responsible direct delivery of patient care under the supervision of the patients primary physician. Exhibits expertise in Ob/Gyn and has the ability to guide the clinical staff through many changes in the delivery of health care and foster a team atmosphere.  Can effectively manage an increasing volume of patients with providing quality patient care in a customer friendly environment.  Will work closely with Physicians and other members of the health care team.  Will act as a nursing consultant for all patient care issues in the medical office setting.

 

 

Human Resource and Staff Development

 

  • In concert with the Practice Manager, develops and administers an evaluation system based on established standards of office clinical practice.
  • Interviews with the Practice Manager, applicant nurses and medical office assistants.
  • Recommends to the Providers and the Practice Manager, promotions and changes in staffing.
  • Instructs and monitors nurses and medical office assistants in obtaining accurate vital statistics, medication list, personal and family history, problem list and other pertinent patient visit history and accurately charting during the interview process in a timely manner.
  • Instructs and monitors clinical staff to perform a variety of tests and assisting the providers in procedures.
  • Instructs and monitors staff for clinical support and accurate record keeping.
  • Ensures that all clinical staff have the knowledge and capability to respond to a medical emergency in the office setting.

 

Clinical Practice Operation

 

  • Delivers patient care and to act as a role model for clinical staff.
  • APN work within the scope of practice of a AON and practice protocols as agreed upon by the collaborating physician and the APN, as set forth in the Nevada Law and Regulations and Administrative Code.
  • Assess health status and manage the health care of the patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting; take, record, and interpret medical histories; perform physical examinations and perform or initiate diagnostic procedures; develop diagnoses and initiate a program of treatment within the standards of medical practice for the specialty area.
  • Assess the patient’s psychological and physical conditions, consulting and referring as needed with other health care professionals; review and evaluate response to health problems and modify programs of treatment as needed.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as allowed by the practice setting and State law in accordance with established protocol; monitor patient for medication side effects, allergic reactions and adjust the medication regime as needed.
  • Evaluate and triage patients; provide emergency medical treatments, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid required to stabilize a patient’s condition until a physician can be consulted or patient is transferred to a higher level of care.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures within established protocols and scope of practice to included suturing minor lacerated tissue and administering local anesthesia.
  • Maintain accurate records documenting all physical findings, diagnoses, and treatments, including medications and changes in health status; prepare written reports, records, and summaries.
  • Maintain safety, health and well being of individuals in the therapeutic environment as allowed in the practice setting; follow facility procedures regarding techniques and duration of confinement; notify appropriate personnel of action taken and document as required.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families to promote good health habits; provide health related education and training to staff.
  • Adhere to community and accreditation standards in the care and treatment of patients in taking timely, appropriate measures to provide and maintain hygienic environments.
  • Meets revenue targets and productivity standards for agreed upon targets.
  • Ensures delivery of efficient, high quality patient care in the office setting.
  • Ensures that patient flow is smooth and uninterrupted with an emphasis on assisting providers to move through their schedule in a timely manner and fill in OB care in the cases where a provider is called for a delivery.
  • Ensures that examination rooms are stocked with proper supplies through the clinical team.
  • Ensures that medications and injectables are properly stocked, stored and dispensed through the clinical team.
  • Ensure that patients are treated in a friendly, caring and confidential manner with an emphasis on patient satisfaction. Maintains good public relations with patients and families.
  • Ensures that charting in the medical record is accurate and neat for there own encounters and for the patients in their care.
  • Works with the medical record coordinator to ensure that the medical record is in good order for that day’s visit.
  • Maintains an environment that meets infection control guidelines and environmental safety guidelines through the clinical team.
  • Ensures good coordination of patient care between Labor & Delivery, Emergency room and other medical offices.
  • Ensures that patients are aware of the Patients Bill of Rights and that they receive information regarding informed consent.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Develops clinical team policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintaining and developing ongoing quality assurance as appropriate.
  • Promotes communication among the nurses and medical office assistants through routinely scheduled meetings.
  • Ensures that all medical equipment is in good working order.
  • Keeps the Providers and Practice Manager informed regarding clinical staff issues, plans and progress.
  • Ensures that clinical staff are informed and trained to participate in all aspects of managed care insurance programs.
